Blood Orange-Raspberry Smash Cocktail

Servings 4


  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 6 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 blood orange, cut in half
  • 1 fresh lime, cut in half
  • 6-8 fresh raspberries
  • 2-3 ounces vodka
  • sparkling soda or sparkling lemonade, to taste


Combine 1 cup of sugar to 1 cup of water and stir. Bring mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat to a simmer (5-6 minutes) or until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture has thickened slightly. Remove from heat, add fresh thyme; cover and steep for 15 minutes.

    Store in a glass jar with lid and refrigerate until ready to use.

      In a cocktail shaker or pitcher, muddle 1/2 blood orange (cut in wedges), 1/2 lime and raspberries.

        Add thyme infused simple syrup, juice of remaining blood orange + lime and vodka. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass filled with ice.

          Top with a splash of sparkling soda and garnish with blood orange slices, raspberries and fresh thyme.
