Heart Shaped Rice Cereal Treats
Ingredients
- 7 tablespoons butter, divided
- 2 (10-ounce) bags mini marshmallows
- 6 cups rice krispies cereal
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- pinch kosher salt
- Chocolate Coating:
- 1 (12-ounce) bag semi-sweet chocolate chip or candy melts
- 1 teaspoon melted coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
- valentine's sprinkles
Instructions
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter and brush on the bottom and sides of a 9×13-inch pan. Set aside until ready to use.
- In a large saucepan melt the remaining 6 tablespoons butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Once the marshmallows are smooth, add the vanilla and the salt; stir it. Remove from the heat and immediately add the cereal and stir until well-coated. Quickly transfer mixture to the prepared pan.
- Press the cereal down with a small piece of parchment paper (or wet or buttered hands) to evenly spread out. Cool at room temperature. Once firm, cut into heart shapes using a lightly greased cookie cutter.
- Add the chocolate chips or candy melts and coconut oil to a bowl and stir. Place the bowl in the microwave, and heat in short 30-second bursts, stirring thoroughly between each burst until the chocolate is completely melted; be careful not to overheat, as chocolate can easily burn.
- Dip heart-shaped treats in the melted chocolate and sprinkle away! Let the chocolate set for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Enjoy!
