Healthy Halloween Treats

It’s not a trick! You can treat your kids to a healthy Halloween instead of pumping them full of unhealthy, sugary snacks. At The Mad Table, we believe that good food can also be good for you, and Halloween goodies are no exception! Here are a few of our suggestions for quick and easy healthy, Halloween treats:

For Parties

-Arrange fruits or veggies on platters into Halloween shapes, including pumpkins, ghosts, witch’s brooms and spiders.

-Allow children to create their own monsters with toothpicks and an assortment of fruits, veggies and fresh berries.

-Use cookie cutters to cut shapes (cats, bats, witch’s hats, ghosts, monsters, circles for full moons, etc.) into cheese, wheat bread, or whole-grain pitas to make fun cheese sandwiches.

-Add bits of dark chocolate chips and fruit to homemade granola and create healthy bars that are a delicious alternative to traditional candy bars.

-Pretzels are a versatile snack that can be offered plain, drizzled or covered with dark chocolate. Wrap them in cellophane and secure with a black or orange ribbon.

For Trick-or-Treaters

Halloween treats don’t always have to be edible. If you put a bit of thought into your Halloween giveaways, you can offer children a happy Halloween without the guilt of sugar, unnecessary calories and single-use plastics.  Think of small crafts or toys – even recycled children’s books!

-Clementines are a naturally sweet treat with their own packaging. That’s zero artificial sugar and zero waste.

-Avoid the risk of food allergies and offer crayons and activity or coloring pages. They’re easy to print right from your home computer.

-Kids love stickers! They’re inexpensive and are suitable for children of all ages. And you won’t have to worry about food allergies or intolerances with this suggestion either!
