Preheat the oven to 375°G. Grease an oven proof baking dish.
Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes. Add the garlic and sauté with the onions for an additional 20-30 seconds, making sure that the garlic does not burn. Add the ground beef and cook for 5 minutes, with very little pink remaining. Season with Italian seasonings, salt, and black pepper. Drain excess grease from the pan, if any.
Spread ricotta evenly across the bottom of the prepared pan. Spread the cooked beef on top, then the marinara sauce, parmesan cheese and finish with a layer of mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle additional Italian seasoning, if desired

Bake for 20 minutes or until browned and bubbly. Remove, sprinkle with fresh basil, and serve warm with crusty baguette or garlic bread. Enjoy!
